D.I.Y: Summer Beach Coverup

The base of this was a Batiked cotton dress my mother used to wear in the 90s and since I have a soft spot for tie-dye I held onto it. Using inspiration from my favourite website Pinterest I decided to re-vamp the long dress into a knee length summer frock. With the material I took off from the bottom I created two ties that were attached on either side of my waist that fasten into a bow and cinch the waist creating definition.

Paired with a jean jacket the outfit looks slightly 80s, but it went well with the vibe of the Batik.

Send suggestions of future D.I.Y projects for A & I to create!

A's Rainy Day DIY: The Scalloped Shorts

Whenever times are dull, I can always brighten up my day with a successful DIY(do it yourself). Todays DIY is a take on the scalloped shorts. This style seems to be so hot this summer season, I'm seeing different styles of shorts with the scalloped hem all around! On H's and I's trip to Port Carling, we spotted some cute styles of the scalloped short designed by Lily Pulitzer. The shorts I designed were created with her styles as an inspiration. I had another successful trip to my local thrift store where a picked up a pair of coral shorts. They were a longer length so my first step was to shorten the length. Once my length was right, I started the DIY. This DIY was a bit more tricky than others, it was easy for me to make mistakes. There was lots of measuring, pinning, sewing and hand stitching. If you think you can take the challenge with this DIY, I encourage you to try it out! Just make a simple google search to find whatever DIY you prefer! I got my instructions here!
Thanks for reading, and good luck ;)

Yours Truly,

ps. sorry for the wrinkled shorts, I just threw them on to snap the pic!

H's Mad Men Inspired Daywear
Early 1960s fashion was all about highlighting the feminine curves and showing off legs by sporting mini skirts. After watching Mad Men on Sunday I was inspired by Betty Draper's look that includes full skirts, floral patterns and pastel hues. This is my take on an updated version of a 60s housewife.

Items: Blouse, necklace and skirt from Forever 21, oxford shoes found thrifting, sunglasses by Joe Fresh.

Fashion Tip: Look into past fashions for inspiration as many trends tend to re-appear every other decade.

A's Rainy Day DIY's

This season lace is so hot! Lace shorts, lace shirts, and lace detailing.  I came across some cute pictures of lace detailing and I thought it would be fun to try my own styles. I went to my local thrift store and purchased some denim shorts. They were a dark shade, but I preferred a lighter shade of denim, so I went forth in bleaching them myself. It turned out, and my next step was to add the lace. It wasn't a very hard task and I encourage you all to try some lace detailing yourself. Its a great way to jazz up some of your denim or old shorts. Thanks for reading and go lace crazy!

MTV Movie Awards : 2012 Best Dressed

Elizabeth Banks sure showed off her own unique style last night at the 2012 MTV Movie Awards, and that is why I believe she was the best dressed from the evening. Elizabeth Banks rocked a Ellie Saab black jumpsuit, which made her appearance seem quite similar to the style of the pop singer Jesse J. The all black pumps and simple high bun hair style really accented her look for the evening. For more photos from the red carpet event click here!

A & H's Rainy Day Wear
This weekend turned out to be quite dreary and what to do when the sun doesn't shine in Muskoka? Go for an adventure. A & I suited up in layers and our rain boots (her in black Juicy Couture, I in aubergine Hunters) to venture along the twisty roads that lead to Port Carling for a quick shop at the stylish boutiques set along the lakeside. Our favourite shops include Skirt, Island View and Free Anatomy. (Below are H's purchases from Skirt)

  • Solemio pink aztec print crop top exhibiting the Spring 2012 neon trend
  • Ark & Co. gold and black knit patterned mullet skirt
We love to tour throughout Ontario to find unique clothing and accessory stores and we would love your recommendations of where to stop next so please feel free to leave them in our comment section!
